Our Philosophy & Programs
Our

promise to families.

At Emergent Kids, we know childhood is a treasured time. We believe it is our responsibility to provide environments and experiences that capture the joys of childhood, nurture each child’s individual growth and development, and pave the way for success in school and life.

The

EKP difference

We offer a unique early education experience built on years of expertise and on what working families have told us they want and need for their children… and for themselves. Child care and early education isn’t just what we do – it’s who we are.

Our Unique Approach & Philosophy

Reggio Emilia & Montessori Inspired

The possibilities and discoveries of early childhood education are endless. Because of this, we do not believe there is just one “right” approach to instruction. Therefore, we use a blend of Reggio Emilia, Montessori, and traditional preschool-inspired approaches. This creates an adaptive environment featuring individualized instruction with a strong focus on play, art, and nature.

Play With Purpose

At Emergent Kids Preschool, we believe in “playing with a purpose.” When given the opportunity to learn through play, exploration, and imagination, children will be inspired with a sense of wonder and curiosity. This will build a foundation for a lifelong love of learning, creativity, and independence. Children are welcomed outdoors rain or shine unless weather conditions are unsafe.

Emergent Curriculum

We believe that children play an integral role in their own development, and we encourage children to be active protagonists in their growing processes. What children learn is not simply an automatic result of what is taught, but is, in fact, a large part due to the children’s own doing as a result of their activities and our resources. We strive to create an effective bridge between direct instruction and child-directed instruction. Teaching is intentional but flexible. Children learn through a carefully prepared social environment. This allows more time in the zone of proximal development. There is enough assistance to be helpful, but not so much or so little that we end up completing the task for the child or leaving him to struggle to the point of giving up.

Teacher to Child Ratios & The Role of the Parent/Guardian

Our programs are designed to have a much lower teacher-to-child ratio than what is required in order for teachers to build strong and purposeful relationships and conduct reflective practices with each child on a weekly basis. This ensures that teachers, children, and parents are working together to create the best care for each individual child. We know that the parent/guardian is a child’s first and most important teacher, and we value the partnership we are given.

Environment & Spaces

Our center’s interior and exterior spaces are designed and organized to eliminate unnecessary distractions, allowing each child to focus on their interests and strengthen their abilities. The environment interacts, modifies, and takes shape in relation to the projects and learning experiences of each child and is welcoming to children of all abilities. We teach children to value their space, respect those around them, and care for our environment through recycling, composting, gardening, and sustainability.
