Frequently Asked Questions

Co-operative play is something we truly value. But it has to be learned, as well as appeal to our social instincts… The best way to achieve this is by copying what we see. Therefore, our teachers and educators model play and co-operate whenever they can, so the children get a sense of what it looks like. Taking turns, acting gently, speaking in a kind manner: all of these are examples of positive reinforcement. Soon enough, the play will start to diffuse social tension as a result.

We begin with short separation times as children need to have faith that their caregiver will return. This builds trust and mutual understanding. Once these brief periods become the norm, we extend the length of separation. A comforter from home often helps, something like a blanket, toy or teddy bear.

It’s normal for a child to cry during their initial state at preschool of semi-independence. Please remember that it’s a natural, healthy response to the love you’ve given them so far… For transitions and promotions, too, we create a plan that’s tailored to their personality traits.

All children must be walked inside and be accompanied by a parent or guardian at the start of each school day. Upon entering the building, they will be signed in. You may drop your child off as early as 7:30 am, but no later than 9:30 am. Please see our Attendance Policy Page for more information on tardiness and absences.

Additional information is available on our Arrival and Dismissal Procedures page.

Emergent Kids Preschool does not provide breakfast. We ask that parents provide breakfast at home. On the rare occasion that your child was not able to finish their breakfast at home, please notify your child’s morning teachers. Please keep in mind that breakfast should consist of healthy items– please no donuts, chocolate milk, cookies, chips, candy, or other unhealthy food items.

Emergent Kids Preschool serves a morning snack, lunch, and an afternoon snack for children enrolled full time at no additional charge. The morning snack is not meant to be a replacement
for breakfast. Meals are prepared in the school by a trained and food-certified staff member. If your child is arriving after 8:40, they will not receive a morning snack. A menu is posted in the hall as well as in each classroom.

Through our Food Program included with tuition, students receive a nutritious and delicious meal that is well balanced and suited for the needs of growing minds and bodies.

Because we know injuries happen during the day, all Emergent Kids staff members have been trained on how to handle injuries and are CPR/First Aid certified prior to employment. Incident reports are kept on file and provided to parents/guardians detailing how injuries occurred, the action taken, and the staff members present at the time of injury.

Our sick child policy is listed in our Parent Handbook found on our For Our Parents page. Children showing symptoms of illness (cough, congestion, fever, upset stomach, rash, or just not feeling well) are not to attend care. Children will be send home of symptoms of illness arise and must stay home until they are symptom free for 24 hours.

It is strongly encouraged that all children starting in care be potty-trained. However, it is not required in the Exploring Preschool (2 Year Olds) program. Children are required to be potty trained entering Pre-K 3 and beyond.

At Emergent Kids Preschool, only children who stay for Creative Afternoons will have a rest period after lunch.

All children present during rest time will be tucked into their personal cot with soft, peaceful music or stories playing to ensure relaxation and time to recharge.

Children are never required to fall asleep, but must rest or participate in a quiet activity during quiet time.

All students share one playground.

Mixed-age grouping is a popular method we utilize. This is where children are in a group consisting of many different ages. This form of grouping is very beneficial for social learning. Our teachers and staff are alert and active at all times of play to ensure the highest safety measures possible.

All children are required to have active documentation of immunization records or exemptions for religious purposes on file at all times. Families will be notified as expirations are upcoming. However, it is the responsibility of the parents/guardians to maintain up to date immunization documentation independently without reminders or assistance.

If a child does not have proof of immunization or exemption or their file has expired, they will not be permitted to attend care until proper documentation as been submitted for the safety of all children and staff.
